So I apologize for my lack of updates. I have been crazy busy between my day-job, writing this mixtape, and trying to orchestrate meetings, while still getting acclimated to the city of ATLanta. But in any event, While I can give details to who i’ve been meeting with… I guess I can share some knowledge that I have acquired over the past few weeks.
So, like many starving artists… I do have a ‘day-job’. I have to live and eat and pay bills… and I’m not ashamed of it. In fact I’m proud to even have a job in this economy. So with that being said, sometimes I can’t just simply focus on my music or my career and I find it hard to make it out to events or at that EVEN sleep! Sometimes I find myself just relying on the INTERNET or just common connections I already have to get me connected to someone else. Inevitably it’s not ‘what’ you know… its ‘who’ you know.
So I had someone who wanted to connect me with a big name in the business the other day. This person has connected me to other people before and we have a real good relationship. Well the meeting that was suppose to occur was rescheduled for a later date. (AS ARE MOST MEETINGS IN THIS BUSINESS) So I then asked if the meeting was ‘solidified‘. WRONG CHOICE OF WORDS!
I really forgot that this wasn’t THEIR dream, It’s mine. IS THERE ANYTHING IN LIFE THAT IS CERTAIN OR ‘SOLIDIFIED’? I really dropped the ball by saying that. I made my connect feel like I didn’t trust them, but I also made myself look ungrateful. Even if they did cancel, someone who was unpaid to do so was trying to put me on. I really felt terrible.
Now granted I have apologized and we have moved on from that isolated incident, but it just made me appreciate the people around me. I think a lot of times I can get so caught in what I’m doing, I forget that this is something I have to work for.
“Yesterdays home-runs don’t count in today’s game”
And while every connection might no be solid or something you might feel you are gaining from, just know that you are. Every opportunity is a learning experience. So just take it for what it is and run with it. When you are paying for something then you have every right to complain, but when someone is in your corner, DON’T QUESTION IT. Just be appreciative. You catch more flies with honey then you do Vinegar.
Meet you at the Top
